About The Artist

Patrick Wood is an artist with talent and skills. His ability to use striking colors with the subjects he paints puts him in a league of his own. Nuwud art pieces are mesmerizing and thought provoking. Patrick Wood’s paintings make you think of your own stories with the characters and images he paints. Growing up in Germany, his Opa (Grandfather), Joseph Machata, was an art curator for the Nürnberger Kunsthalle and brought appreciation for art and photography into Patrick’s young life. Patrick would regularly get into trouble in school for drawing during class, as opposed to actually taking notes. His mother was always supportive of his artistic talents; although she reminded him that there is a time and place for his creativity. By eleventh grade his father had enrolled him in Advanced Placement Studio Art class, where he really began to develop his artistic skills at professional grade under the guidance of Fran Nichols. In 2003, Patrick graduated with his degree in multimedia. That program furthered his studies in typography, graphic design, art history, and art theory and methods. As an adult Patrick has thrived at producing versatile styles of acclaimed art.

Artist Statement

Loving art comes as naturally to me as breathing air. It’s just a part of me. Of all my interests in life, art triggers a real passion inside of me. Creating something meaningful from my imagination and having it manifest on canvas is a real thrill for me.

I love sharing my skills and talent with people who are interested in seeing it. I love it when people watch me sketch over my shoulder or when they watch me paint live. It kind of puts the pressure on and helps me produce faster and with more intensity.

Creating Images from scratch is part of the fascination in art for me. It seems like a fairly human thing to do. Although, I hear one phrase a lot from people who love to watch me draw, “I can’t even draw a stick figure!”. It makes me aware of how much of a gift being able to draw and paint truly is.

I try to remind other humans of their responsibilities to themselves with my art, to those around them, to the environment, and to wildlife. I have begun using my art as a way to draw attention to the plight of those who have no voice of their own to speak up. I began with championing bees because the alignment was just too cosmic to ignore and my heart goes out to them since I have watched their numbers wane over the years. The existence of bees is vital to our own more than most other species and that symbiotic relationship needs to be replenished.

Art is a communications tool for saying some of the more intimate things we can not say out loud. I am blessed to be able to use art as my way of communicating.
